This study aimed to define characteristics of mountain village landscapes perceived by locals to sustainably preserve and manage mountain village landscapes. We selected landscape resources of mountain villages by reviewing previous studies and conducting field surveys and surveyed mountain villages’ locals to investigate the characteristics of their perceptions of the mountain village landscapes. The surveys were conducted from March to October 2019, in the form of 1:1 questionnaire survey. In consequence, highly reliable 150 responses were analyzed. IPA method(Revised Importance-Performance Analysis) was used in the analysis. It is found that, in landscapes, the first quadrant is ‘Cultivated land, Forest’, the second quadrant is ‘Coastal, Forestry and Agriculture Facility’, the third quadrant is ‘Forest Service·Profitable Facility, Settlement, History and Culture’, and the fourth quadrant is ‘Riparian, Street’. In conclusion, locals of mountain villages are perceiving the mountain village landscapes based on their livelihoods and daily lives, and the mountain village landscapes are closely related to their lives. The results of this study are expected to be utilized as fundamental resources in establishing policies regarding sustainable conservation and management of mountain village landscapes which led by locals.
This study analyzed the management efficiency of local food stores that are increasing recently. The analysis targeted 25 local food outlets in Jeonbuk area, and the analysis method analyzed the efficiency by CCR model. The input variables used to analyze the input-oriented efficiency of local food stores are business expenses, employees, organizational number of participating farms, and number of items, and sales are used as output variables. The main contents of the analysis are as follows. First, local food outlets increased due to support projects such as the government, local governments, and agricultural cooperatives, but their dependence was high. Second, the management efficiency of 25 local food stores in Jeonbuk is 28.0% when the efficiency is 1.000, and 72.0% of inefficient local food stores. Third, considering the projection point and the reference group, there was room for improvement in input variables. Therefore, it was determined that improvement efforts are needed to secure the continuity of local food outlets in the future. However, this study will require review of variable selection and analysis methods for further analysis.
The aim of this study is to assess the potential for fusion and convergence in industrial agriculture. First, we analyzed the types of industrial agriculture and applied the agri-business and ICT agriculture. After then, we analyzed the Project Potential Index (PPI) of the agri-business and ICT agriculture using the agricultural enterprise database provided from Rural Research Institute in Korea. The results revealed that Haenam have a high potential for agri-business project because of large number of farmers and annual sales. Wanju was considered as the suitable place for ICT agriculture project because of large area of greenhouse. This study was applied only 7 study area but the methodology suggested in this study could be widely used for assessing potential project various types of industrial agriculture.
This study was attempted to grasp the push-pull factors of urban to rural migrants in relation to services and infrastructure of rural welfare and culture. Online and offline survey were conducted for urban residents who were willing to return to the rural area and those who were already returning to the rural area. In the fields of health care, social welfare, and education, it was found that the satisfaction level of urban-to-rural migrants was relatively higher than those of latent urban-to-rural migrants. In the field of culture, leisure and sports, the level of satisfaction and concern were similar, so it was found that the expectations for the field were relatively high before returning rural area. As for the agreement degree to expand support, the demand for emergency medical facilities and dementia care program was the highest, and the demand for health care was found to be relatively high. The results of the survey on the top priority items indicate that latent urban-to-rural migrants require support of facility and space item and expansion of program item, and urban-to-rural migrants have high demand for expansion of program item in all field except healthcare field. The results of this study are expected to provide useful information for establishing the direction of the rural area development project in connection with the revitalization of policy of people return to rural area.
In this study, we analyzed the characteristics of 511 agricultural districts through statistical data, and classify these districts as the vulnerable area to drought through correlation and cluster analysis. The criteria for classification was related to ground-water recharge, irrigation water demand, and water supply. As a result, 8 types of agricultural districts were extracted. For example, the type 1 indicated the high priority area for ground-water development, thus the districts which were classified as type 1 showed ground-water use was less than 80 % of maximum capacity, and irrigation water supply was only 37.5 % and 76.5 % of irrigation water demand in upland and paddy field, respectively. As a result, 44 of 511 districts were classified as type 1.36 districts (types 5-8) were areas where groundwater development is limited. The results of this study are expected to provide useful information for establishing the direction of the rural area development project in connection with the revitalization of policy of people return to rural area.
The purpose of this study is to calculate the annual carbon reduction of crops according to the carbon fixation method of agricultural land, therefore to analyze whether the economic inducement of farmers to switch from single cropping to double cropping if the amount of carbon reduction were traded on the Korea Exchange. The analysis targets were Gyeonggi Province, which was divided into four areas to compare the difference between agricultural income and carbon income by crop and cropping system. Agricultural profit was estimated by multiplying the prior data of 2012 by the change rate of the consumer price index, and carbon income was calculated through the carbon reduction for each crop and the average transaction price of KAU19 traded on the Korea Exchange. According to the analysis, the profit rate of double cropping in all areas is -110.4% to 23% compared to single cropping, when only agricultural profit is taken into account, with no economic inducement for farmers to change the cropping system. However, when carbon income is taken into account together, the profit rate of double cropping rises significantly from 122.5% to 238.9% over a single operation in all areas, resulting in an economic inducement to switch the cropping system. This research is meaningful in that farming households could raise their income by additional carbon income, and that carbon credits could be supplied at Korea Exchange to further boost the carbon emission exchange.
This study conducted monitoring and outcome evaluation of three newly-established programs in ‘Community Empowerment program in 2019’ in Daegwallyeong-myeon. The purpose of the study is to find out the organic relationship between the process and result of the program and its effect on participants by performing two evaluation methods in parallel on the target program. As a result of the research, first, it was found that there was a difference in the degree of acceptance of feedback depending on the instructor who is charging each program. Second, there were two categorized results such as the depth and direction which is changed by the number of monitoring, or similar content being repeated. Third, there was an organic relationship between monitoring evaluation and outcome evaluation. Therefore, it can be said that it is highly likely to lead to more systematic and meaningful results if the community empowerment program is monitored as a process evaluation and outcome evaluation.
Analysis of the Status of Agricultural Communities and Location Quotient (LQ) using Regional Survey Data in 2015 Census of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries
Rural areas have been faced with various problems such as aging and population decline, and in these circumstances, the activation of local communities is suggested as a solution. Agricultural producer organizations are a powerful means of maintaining rural society. The purpose of this study is to understand the characteristics of agricultural community activities by region by comparing the status of organization and activities and analyzing Location Quotient(LQ) based on the regional survey data in the 2015 census of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. As the results of the analysis, it was found that 38.35% of villages participated in economic organizations and 32.22% of villages were having urban-rural exchange activities. The crop clubs were actively operated in the Gyeongsangbuk province, and other economic organizations were organized in Jeju, Haenam-gun, and Dangjin-si more than other regions. And the urban-rural exchange activities were found in Chungcheongnam province mainly. The results of detailed LQ analysis by organization and activity showed that specialized regions for each community or activity were different. These results could be used for regional planning or the establishment of strategies for community activation.
The Onishi model is an objective indicator which can be used to evaluate the relevance of city environmental management in regard to the capacities and processing status of existing urban infrastructure. This study is to analyze the facility carrying capacity and processing status of Jeju Island, a famous tourist site in South Korea. General variables covered by the Onishi model are considered, including water supply, wastewater treatment, waste disposal, and air pollution. Furthermore, the facility carrying capacities for transportation, such as airports and ports, as well as accommodations are assessed as variables pertinent to the characteristics of Jeju island. With the annual number of tourists exceeding that of residents on the island, more facilities for sewage treatment and waste disposal are required. Furthermore, transportation and accommodations used by tourists have already exceeded their capacity. For the future sustainability of Jeju Island, a plan will be needed for adjusting the volume of tourists based on the capacity of each relevant facility.
Up to date, the majority research on the major landscape elements in organic farming has been mainly focused on the practice of seeking efficiency. The problem is that this type of study contributes to polluting the agricultural environment and damaging the ecological circulation system. As an alternative, there is a growing body of research on organic farming, but it is not widely applied that research on how to manage the landscape considering the scenic characteristics of farming villages practicing organic farming. Therefore, this study was carried out in the conservative aspects of rural landscapes in order to effectively manage the landscape of organic agriculture and, intended to be used to maintain and preserve natural and ecologically harmonious landscapes by deriving management methods suitable for landscape elements targeting the major landscape elements of the organic farming complex . T o carry o ut, t his s tudy p erformed t he ex perts s urvey w hich i s c omposed o f 1 3 m ajor landscape e lements, including rice paddies and fields, monoculture and diverse crops, dirt roads, windbreak trees, accent planting, dum-bung(small pond), natural small river, natural waterways, plastic film houses, one-storied houses, and pavilion. As a result, Farm land was formed in a square shape, concentrated in an independent space, planted companion plants around the crop, and covered with plants to manage the borders. As for the surrounding environment, it was analyzed that the aspart road system circulating through the village, the evergreen broad-leaved windbreak forest around the cultivated land, and the accent plant located at the entrance of the village were suitable. The hydrological environment consists of Round small pond made of stone in an open space, natural rivers around the village, and natural channels around the farmland, and The Major facilities are suitable for greenhouses that are shielded by plants in independent regions, and wooden duck houses located inside the cultivation area are suitable and The settlement facilities were analyzed to be suitable for single-story brick houses located in independent residential areas, pavilion located with greenery in the center of the village, and educational spaces shielded with wood from arable land. If supplementary evaluation criteria suitable for the management of organic farming landscape are additionally supplemented based on the results derived from this study, It is expected to enhance the landscape value of ecologically superior organic farming.
In this study, demands of smart technology development were analyzed for rural village communities. Questionnaire items were derived by grasping the current status of information and communication technology. 49 villages in 8 regions were selected and surveys and statistical analysis were conducted. The main results of the study are as follows. First, 92% of community leaders use smartphones, search for information (38%), communicate with the Internet (36%) using smartphones, use KakaoTalk (31%), and Facebook (24%). Second, in the rural and urban exchange activities, promote support information service (51%) and promote method suggestion service (48.5%) showed that the demand for services in promote field was high. It is linked to the creation of economic opportunities. Third, in the income and production activities, demand for distribution services technology (39.3%) was high in the field of production and distribution, and cold chains that help maintain freshness until food, such as meat, fish, and vegetables are delivered to consumers when agricultural products are distributed. The constant temperature control system needs to be actively introduced. Fourth, autonomy activities showed the highest demand for air conditioning and control systems (34.2%) of community building, and the lowest demand for electronic voting (9.4%) and videoconferencing (9.4%) services. Lastly, in the general activity area of the community, the demand for technology of emergency services (37.1%) and health self-diagnosis service (35.4%), which are technologies in the welfare sector, ranked first and second respectively.
